Menu for Living a Spiritual Life
The following is a list of healthy qualities and practices that will make one’s life spiritual and healthy. It is by no means exhaustive and more items will be added in the future. These items can be put together selectively into a regular routine or one may pick something from the list whenever they feel bored or unfulfilled.
Mindfulness
Daily Prayers with devotion, mindfulness and understanding
Reflection on everything
Special time for reflection in the day
Reading some Holy Writings while reflecting
Spending some time acquiring some knowledge
Spending some time praying to God for one’s needs
Meditating on God’s blessings
Meditating on the Greatness of God
Meditating on the shortness of one’s life
Seeking forgiveness from God for one’s mistakes
Reviewing the previous day and thinking how one can make today better than yesterday and get closer to God
Thinking about one’s relationships, e.g., parents, family members and friends and one’s responsibilities towards them
Always being humble
Always relying and trusting in God
Involvement with nature, e.g., going for a walk or gardening
Being engaged in work – Work is worship
Spending time with family and friends
Breathing
Repeating a name of God or glorification a certain number of times such as Subhanallah 33 times or Allah’u’Abha 95 times
